Rocco Parisi
Born 1959 in San Pietro a Maida, Italy, Rocco Parisi studied at the Rotterdam Conservatorium, Holland, under the guide of Henry Bok, brilliantly gaining the Getuigschrift bass clarinet diploma, followed in Italy by clarinet master degree “Cum Laude” at the Conservatorio “F. Ghedini” of Cuneo.
Winner of several international competitions, including T.I.M. Rome, the Orpheus Prize in Antwerpen, and Concorso Internazionale di Stresa, Parisi took part in “maestro” Giuseppe Garbarino’s master classes at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena earning four Diploma of Honor and becoming first assistant at the Academy.
Talented performer of contemporary music and renowed innovator in bass clarinet extended techniques, Parisi gave the world premiere of “Sequenza IX c” and the Italian premiere of “Chemins II c” for bass clarinet and orchestra by Luciano Berio. Many original compositions have been dedicated to Parisi leading him to perform in important Italian festivals, including “Chigiana Novità” Siena, “Settembre Musica” Turin, “Biennale” Venice, “Nuovi Spazi Musicali” Rome and “Spazio Musica” Cagliari. Thanks to direct and deep collaborations with composers Ennio Morricone and Sylvano Bussotti, Parisi recorded some world premieres on published cds and played their compositions in several concert-halls.
As soloist he has performed in Germany, Turkey, Portugal, China, France, Switzerland, Spain, USA, in prestigious venues as Basklarinetdagen Gent, Strobel Studio Freiburg, Centrum Sztuki Wspolczenej Warsaw, Music Academy of Kracow, UHR kleinersaal Leipzig, Lisbon Music Conservatory and the Beijing Central Conservatory, “Festival Cervantino” Mexico, and in many national and international radio and television broadcasts as RAI, BRT and WDR.
Clarinet and bass clarinet professor at the Conservatorio “Antonio Vivaldi” in Alessandria. Rocco Parisi has worked with a number of Italian orchestras, such as “Giovanile Italiana” Fiesole, the “Arturo Toscanini” Parma, the “Orchestra da Camera” Padua, Orchestra Sinfonica “Giuseppe Verdi” Milan and Italian Radio Television National Symphony Orchestra). He also gives master classes in world clarinet conventions.
His works are on Taukay, Stradivarius, DDT, Nuova Era, AOC Classic – Edizioni Leonardi, Concerto Music-Media, Amirani Records.
